Ardevur: The Game of Resources

Board Game Cinematic & Gameplay Trailer

ARDEVUR is a simulation of the modern mining and metals supply chain! Build a mining empire in an asymmetric gameplay experience where four corporations compete to gain supremacy over the world's critical resources.

I first got involved with Ardevur: The Game of Resources after playtesting an early prototype. Noticing the potential for a strong visual campaign, I proposed creating a cinematic trailer that could showcase the game’s world, story, and key gameplay elements.

Working closely with the designer and artist, I took on the full creation process for the trailer and explainer video. From scripting the video flow to 3D modelling, texturing, animation, camera work, editing, sound design, and voiceover.

The goal was to craft a piece that balanced cinematic storytelling with gameplay clarity, offering a glimpse into the game’s lore while leaving an air of mystery. Throughout production, the project evolved as the game itself changed, with new rules, redesigned components, and visual updates.

These shifts brought unique challenges, but through consistent communication and collaboration with the team, we adapted quickly and managed to deliver a cohesive and impactful final video.

The Cinematic was created to offer a glimpse into the world of Ardevur.

This cinematic scratches only the surface, leaving the rest to be discovered through the upcoming books and gameplay experience.

Every frame was designed to carry hidden clues about the story, geography, and the forces at play in Ardevur.

For one of the characters named ''Aya'' I used Unreal engine and Metahuman as well as Facial motion capture to get quick and high quality results.

Through subtle animation, camera movement, and lighting, the video teases the tone, atmosphere, and emotional weight of the world, without ever revealing too much.

Gameplay Explainer

Since the trailer was intentionally mysterious, we decided to create a longer-form explainer video to showcase the gameplay in detail.

The project was featured at Spiel 2025, so it was essential to produce a clear and engaging explainer to help visitors and potential players understand the mechanics and flow of the game.

Participating in the early playtests helped me understand the game on a deeper level, which made the process of creating both the cinematic and explainer videos much smoother and more authentic.

Modelling and Texturing

Some of the game components were provided as STL files. While the geometry was optimized for manufacturing and 3D printing, it wasn’t suitable for visual production. Although the models were accurate in shape, they contained dense and irregular topology, making them inefficient for rendering and unsuitable for proper texturing.

Once the new topology was complete, I UV unwrapped and textured the assets to achieve a visually appealing and consistent look across all pieces, ensuring they were both production-ready and visually cohesive for the final animation.

The cinematic and gameplay videos are now used as part of the Hashtag 64's marketing materials, helping bring the game’s world to life and attract early backers.
